I was always amazed at some people who could say that they can do something perfectly. How do they know that they've reached perfection? It is a comforting and probably a gratifying feeling to know that one is doing something perfectly. I think, however, that the idea of perfection is very subjective, since it is always negotiated by a group of experts in any given field, from fashion to literature to science.
Some of my thoughts on the idea of perfection are expressed in my play, Honey. It was inspired by my beloved book, Frankenstein, and Mary Shelley's biography by one of the writers which I respect tremendously, Miranda Seymour. Enjoy reading Honey's excerpt online.
While writing the play, I realized how impossible it is to strive for perfection. Thus, for one of my classes, I wrote a paper entitled "In search of imperfection." It stresses the fact that life would be so much simpler if we would stop striving to achieve what is unattainable.
